#17: These Violent Delights | An Edward&Bella Fanmix

  • These Violent Delights | An Edward&Bella Fanmix
(featuring songs from Radiohead, The xx, The Black Keys, The Kills & Band Of Skulls)

{instrumental}

I chose this song for its simplicity; a piano, strings and a touch of reverb. Yet despite its simplicity, its very beautiful and haunting. The melody is continuous but tentative, while the strings build throughout the song, and so I thought this song fit Edward and Bella very well.

The kiss on the cheek, it's been a while
So Ill just beg, borrow and steal all your time
We'll call it dignified, and now it seems to be cut and dry
'Cause I know which way to run
You're tired my love, I feel the same

I chose this song mainly for the amazing drumming and rhythm, as well as the chorus of voices that support the lead singer. Its an action packed song - incredibly different to +ÿ - and I always envisioned it as a song suitable for vampires. It's been a favourite of mine for a long time.

It's always best with the covers up
I am the pick in the ice
Do not cry out or hit the alarm
You know we're friends until we die

And either way you turn, I'll be there
Open up your skull, I'll be there
Climbing up the walls

Radiohead seems to be synonymous with Twilight, and this one has a very sensual, hypnotic sound to it. Though originally written about Thom Yorke's experience working in a mental institution, the lyrics can be interpreted a number of ways - something that is true to most of Radiohead's songs. Edward and Bella are unintentionally driving each other insane, and are always in each other's thoughts.

Love is best an addiction
Since time is so short, jump with confusion
Eyes closed for lives to open up
Free fall with me to open up

I will guide in the night
Who do you want to forget?
I will guide in the night

Another favourite song of mine and another song chosen mainly for the music. This song is about letting go and embracing love, despite the risks and being there for each other. I think this especially pertains to Edward and Bella, who both quickly realized they needed each other and never really danced around that. The lyrics to the first verse, "If hope is a dangerous hole, will you join me? Jump, there's a world of war, will you join me?", really relate to Edward's feelings about having Bella in his life. It's dangerous for her, but she is all he wants, and he toes the line between being selfish and protecting her.

I must admit, I can't explain
Any of these thoughts racing through my brain, it's true
Baby I'm howling for you

There's something wrong with this plot
The actors here have not got a clue
Baby I'm howling for you

Edward and Bella yearn for each other. From the beginning there is an unexplainble attraction that is unprecedented for both of them. It feels wrong and unreal, but the feelings never change. They are drawn together, and this song displays that.

You mean that much to me and it's hard to show
Gets hectic inside of me when you go
Can I confess these things to you
Well I don't know, embedded in my chest
And it hurts to hold

They're scared of the feelings they have and they are both aware that it goes beyond the normal. More than that, they are terrified of saying it, as if it will all disappear once it goes spoken or will not be reciprocated.

{instrumental}

Another instrumental with much the same feelings as the first, but with a more sorrowful, more thoughtful tone. The instruments move with more complexity, and reflects how Bella and Edward's relationship evolves and becomes more mature and they can be honest with each other.

Kiss all your fingers, what's that for?
You'll never get to heaven with your shirt all tore
Cut through your finger and cut you loose
Lost a lot of blood. Lost a lot of cool cool cool
Now it ain't such a thrill

I chose this song solely for how it sounds. It seems like it would fit in perfectly with the tone of the films soundtracks. When I first started listening to The Kills a few years ago and when I came across this song, I had a hard time figuring out what is what about. The main consenus among fans is that it is a sexual song, but here opinions differ. Some consider it to be a song about adultery, others about losing your virginity. To be honest, I just like the music.

I've got all you've waited for
I've got all you need

Shot in the dark
I'll wait for your
Dull gold heart
I'll wait

This is where I get lazy. I love how this song sounds and Band of Skulls are now Twilight soundtrack veterans, so I had to include them
